Ahau

Asteroid 24761, Ahau, an Apollo asteroid, was discovered on January 28, 1993 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker and Eugene M. Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. It has a period of 1 year, 198 days.

It was named for the Mayan god Kinich Ahau. He was the patron god of the city Itzamal (in what is now Mexico's Yucatan state) and supposedly visited the city at noon every day. He would descend as a macaw and consume offerings that had been left out for him. Kinich Ahau is usually depicted with the face of a jaguar.

Astrologically, Ahau seems to indicate: parrots, "face of a predator or killer," happening every day or regularly.
