Asteroid 8732, Champion, was discovered on December 8, 1996 by Tsutomu Seki at Geisei Observatory in Geisei, Kochi, Japan. It has a period of 3 years, 170 days.

It was named for pioneer American aviator and stunt pilot Frank Champion (1884-1917), who flew to Japan in a wooden airplane and was killed while performing in the city of Kochi when one of the wings of his plane broke.

Frank Champion

Astrologically, asteroid Champion seems to mean what its name would suggest: winning, to champion, "sic transit gloria mundi".
