Asteroid 33747, Clingan, was discovered on August 14, 1999 by Gary Hug at Farpoint Observatory in Eskridge, Kansas. It has a period of 5 years, 142 days.

Roy Clingan (b. 1950) has been a driving force for amateur astronomy in the Arkansas region for many years. He has discovered many minor planets, has spearheaded the effort to build the Red River Astronomy Club's Observatory and has been a mentor for other amateur astronomers along the way.
