Confucius

Asteroid 7853, Confucius, was discovered on January 29, 1973 by C. J. van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by Tom Gehrels. It has a period of 5 years, 119 days.

It was named for Kung-Fu Tzu (551 BCE-471 BCE), a famous Chinese philosopher better known by the Westernized version of his name: Confucius.

Confucius

Nothing written by Confucius has survived, but his pupils compiled a collection of his sayings and anecdotes in the Master Cung. Confucius was convinced that the self-discipline and virtue shown by society's leaders would influence everyone. During the Han dynasty, Confucius was venerated as a god, and in the Sung dynasty his rules of living filtered into politics and education.

The astrological meaning of asteroid Confucius seems to be: the value of that which is Asian; relating to Confucius' teachings; deferring to those above or older.
