Coriolis

Asteroid 16564, Coriolis, was discovered on January 30, 1992 by Eric W. Elst at the European Southern Observatory. It has a period of 5 years, 55 days.

It was named for French mathematician and physicist Gaspard Gustave de Coriolis (1792-1843), who showed that the laws of motion could be used in a rotating frame by adding an extra force, the coriolis acceleration, to the equations of motion (Sur les èquations du mouvement relatif des systèmes des corps, 1835).
