Asteroid 1270, Datura, was discovered on December 17, 1930 by George Van Biesbroeck at Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. It has a period of 3 years, 125 days.

It is named for the Datura genus of plants of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), which includes Datura stramonium, the jimsonweed.
