Delila

Asteroid 560, Delila, was discovered on March 13, 1905 at Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany by Maximilian Wolf. It has a period of 4 years, 205 days and is 37.24 kilometers (a little more than 23 miles) in diameter.

It was named for Delilah, a female character in the Bible who, at the behest of the Philistines, seduced the Old Testament strongman Samson, got him to reveal the secret of his strength (he never cut his hair); he then had his hair cut off and was blinded by the Philistines. He then pulled down their temple, killing a bunch of Philistines as well as himself.

Samson and Delilah, (circa 1613), a painting by Peter Paul Rubens.

Astrologically, asteroid Delila seems to indicate to weaken, to impoverish (it has been said); also, to castrate, to compromise, to lead into temptation, to backstab; possibly, misogynistic attitudes or fears of vulnerability..

The glyph for Delila is mine.
