Dence


Asteroid 4340, Dence, was discovered on May 4, 1986 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker at Palomar Mountain Observatory. It has a period of 3 years, 258 days and is slightly over 5 miles in diameter.

It was named for Canadian geologist Michael R. Dence, a past president of the Royal Society of Canada who did important research on asteroid impacts of Earth.
