Asteroid 4762, Dobrynya, was discovered on September 16, 1982 by Lyudmila I. Chernykh at Nauchnyj, Ukraine. It has a period of 3 years, 227 days.
It was named for the Russian epic hero Dobrynya Nikitich, known for his special knowledge and courtesy. He once made a deal with a dragon he was fighting who begged him not to kill it, only to have to fight and kill it anyway when it abducted a princess. The legend is believed by historians to be based on the real Slavic warlord Dobrynya.
Three Bogatyrs, an 1898 painting by Russian artist Viktor Vasnetsov (1848-1926) depicting three heroes of Russian legend, (from left to right) Ilya Muromets, Dobrynya Nikitich and Alyosha Popovich, guarding the Russian border.
Astrologically, asteroid Dobrynya seems to indicate protecting boundaries, foolish or misguided compassion, being a victim of gossip.
The glyph for Dobrynya is mine.
