EMP



Asteroid 5001, EMP, was discovered on September 19, 1987 by Edward "Ted" Bowell at Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 4 years, 128 days and is slightly over 6 miles in diameter.

It was named for an annual publication of the Minor Planet Center, the Ephemeris of Minor Planets (EMP).

The meaning of asteroid EMP seems to be informed by what its name might suggest:"imp" (impish, imps).
