Asteroid 4955, Gold, was discovered on September 17, 1990, by Henry E. Holt at Palomar Mountain Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. It has a period of 5 years, 227 days and is 29.84 kilometers (about 18 1/2 miles) in diameter.

It was named for NASA space-probe mission manager Rob Gold (born 1943).
