Hel

Asteroid 949, Hel, was discovered on March 11, 1921 by Maximilian Wolf at Heidelberg, Germany. It has a period of 5 years, 77 days and is slightly less than 39 1/2 miles in diameter.

It was named for Hel, the Norse goddess of the dead, whose domain also bore her name. The name was proposed by his wife, Gisela Wolf, two years after his death.
