Asteroid 7119, Hiera a Jupiter Trojan, was discovered on January 11, 1989 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. It has a period of 11 years, 289 days.
It was named for Hiera, a famous female warrior and general of Pergamon, an ancient city near modern-day Bergama, Turkey, in the region of Mysia on the south shore of the Sea of Marmara in what is now northwestern Turkey. Hiera was an Amazon and the wife of Telephos, founder of Pergamon; when the Greeks attacked Pergamon during the Trojan War, the Amazons joined the defense of the city, in which Hiera was killed. Telephos called a cease-fire so he could hold Hiera's funeral. The account was reportedly edited out of the Iliad because, according to Philostratus, Homer didn't want his Helen upstaged by another outstanding female character.
Astrologically, Hiera seems to be about what one holds sacred or values, or conversely,anathematizes; holy, a sacred cow, relating to churches or religions; possibly, manipulating the facts to mislead in the service of sexism, racism or other bigotry.
