Asteroid 587, Hypsipyle, was discovered on February 2, 1906 by Maximilian Wolf at Heidelberg, Germany. It has a period of 3 years, 208 days and is about 6 5/6 miles in diameter.
It was named for Hypsipyle, queen of Lemnos; Jason got her pregnant with twins when he visited ths Greek island with the Argonauts, then abandoned her. The women killed all the males on the island after Aphrodite afflicted all the women with bad body odor for neglecting her worship, but Hypsipyle saved her father Thoas' life, for which she and her sons were chased from the island.

Astrologically, asteroid Hypsipyle seems to have to do with family loyalty, the voice of reason, losing loved ones through oversight.
