Asteroid 3562, Ignatius, was discovered on January 8, 1984 by Joe F. Wagner at the Anderson Mesa unit of Lowell Observatory near Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 3 years, 211 days.

It was named in honor of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556; born ═˝igo Lˇpez de Loyola), a Spanish priest and theologian who founded the Society of Jesus, an order of Catholic monks better known as the Jesuits.
