It was named for the ancient Chaldean (Iraqi) sun god Izhdubar (or Gizdubar), who has been identified with Gilgamesh. He slew the dragon Tiamat, the personification of primeval chaos and enemy of the gods and humanity. The exploits of Izhdubar were believed to represent the Sun's annual passage through the signs of the zodiac.
Astrologically, Izhdubar seems to indicate to be swatted down, to fail, to fall short, to be oppressed.
