Kowalski


Asteroid 7392, Kowalski, was discovered March 6, 1984 by Edward "Ted' Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station of the Lowell Observatory near Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 4 years, 209 days.

It was named for amateur astronomer Richard Kowalski (born 1963), a specialist in minor planets and comets who founded the Minor Planet Mailing List discussion group on Yahoo in 1998.

The meaning of asteroid Kowalski ('blacksmith's son" in Polish), however, seems to be: rough, sensual, blue-collar sensibilities, cunning, streetwise, macho (as in Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams' classic play A Streetcar Named Desire.
