Asteroid 84224, Kyte, was discovered on September 9, 2002 by Rob D. Matson on NEAT images taken at Haleakala Observatory near Kula, Hawaii, on Maui. It has a period of 3 years, 151 days.

It was named for oceanographer Frank Kyte (born 1949), a specialist in undersea meteorite impacts.
