Leewei

Asteroid 28417, Leewei, was discovered on November 3, 1999 by the Lincoln Laboratory Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) Team at Socorro, New Mexico. It has a period of 3 years, 218 days and is slightly over 4 miles in diameter.

It was named for Singaporean high school student Matthew Lee Liang Wei (born 1993), who got second place in the 2011 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for his environmental management team project, "Investigating the adsorption potential of orange peel as a biosorbent for the removal of copper (II) ions."

The influence of asteroid Leewei, according to Henk Middelraad, seems to be what its name might suggest: leeway.
