Lempo

Asteroid 47171, Lempo, a Kuper Belt Object, was discovered on October 1, 1999 by Eric P. Rubenstein and Louis.-Gregpry Strolger at Kitt Peak Observatory near Sells, Arizona. It has a period of 247 years, 133 days.

It is named for the ancienr Finnish god of love and fertility, Lempo, who was turned into a demon through the Christianization of Finland and was the villain in medieval Finnish folk tales. His name is now a mild swear word in Finnish.

Astrologically, it seems to indicate malevolent distortion or perversion of benign energy for selfish reasons, demonization, possiby religious bigotry,<

The glyph for Lempo is Zane Stein's creation.
