It was named for Mariola Magnoni Tieghi (born 1934), a past president of Inner Wheel Club of Como in Italy. The Inner Wheel Club is an international women's organization associated with the Rotary Club, originally founded as a sort of auxiliary organization for Rotarians' wives and daughters prior to the opening of the Rotary Club to female members in 1989.
