Micromegas

Asteroid 224617, Micromégas, was discovered on December 22, 2005 by Jean-Claude Merlin at Nogales, Arizona. It has a period of 5 years, 71 days.

It refers to an early science-fiction short story "Micromégas", written by Voltaire in 1752. The giant Micromégas, who hails from Sirius, is traveling through the universe with a considerably smaller, but still giant, Saturnian. When they arrive on Earth, they first think it uninhabited because they can't see any life forms, but then discover a whale and then a boat full of human explorers, and manage to communicate with them; discussing Earth philosophers, the two extraterrestrials break out laughing when they are told that St. Thomas Aquinas thought the universe made especially for humanity, and give the humans a book of nothing but blank pages which they say explains the point of everything.

The meaning of Micromegas seems to be : small effort, huge results (Henk Middelraad); also, possibly, critical observations from the outside.
