
Asteroid 7198, Montelupo, was discovered on January 16, 1994 by Andrea Boattini and Maura Tombelli at Asiago Astronomical Observatory on Cima Ekar ridge near Asiago, Vicenza, Italy. It has a period of 4 years, 67 days.
It was named for the town of Montelupo, Fiorentino province, Italy, which was Tombelli's hometown and important to the astronomical careers of both she and Boattini; they did most of the followup observations for the asteroid in Montelupo.
