Asteroid 66391 Moshup, an Aten asteroid, was discovered May 20, 1999 by LINEAR at Socorro, New Mexico.. It has a period of about 187 days, 11 1/2 hours and is about 4/5 of a mile in diameter.
It was named for Moshup, a giant of Wampanoag and Mohegan mythology, who according to legend lived on Nantucket Island and was responsible for creating various geologic features in the region as a result of his smoking and his hunting of whales. He warned the Native Americans about the white people who would be coming to the region, and when they did not listen to him and fell on hard times, faded into the landscape. He married a local medicine woman, Squannit, for whom Moshup's moon is named. Bad weather was attributed to times when the couple would argue.
Astrologically, asteroid Moshup seems to indicate : to withdraw for self-protection, to do what one has to do to get what one wants, making one's own reality, warning of a takeover, concealment for self-protection.
