Obruchev

Asteroid 3128, Obruchev, was discovered on March 23, 1979 by Nikolai S. Chernykh at Nauchnyj, Ukraine. It has a period of 5 years, 179 days.

It was named for Vladimir Obruchev (1863-1956), a Russian engineer, geologist and writer who wrote extensively on the geology of Siberia and Central Asia and also wrote two classic science-fiction novels, Plutonia (1915) and Sannikov Land (1924).

Vladimir Obruchev

The meaning of asteroid Obruchev seems to be: to jump through hoops (Damien Foor); "over the barrel," "more fun than a barrel of monkeys," cracker-barrel philosophy; possibly, Siberian and Central Asian geology, lost-world speculation or fiction.
