Oceana


Asteroid 224, Oceana, was discovered on March 30, 1882 by Johann Palisa at Vienna. It has a period of 4 years, 116 days and is 61.82 kilometers (about 38 2/5 miles) in diameter.

It was named for the Pacific Ocean by the French governor of Tahiti in 1883.

The meaning of asteroid Oceana seems to be (Henk Middelraad): huge area (Henk Middelraad); also (it has been said), having to do with the ocean.
