Asteroid 215, Oenone, was discovered on April 7, 1880 by Viktor Knorre at Berlin, Germany. It has a period of 4 years, 219 days and is about 26½ miles in diameter.
Oenone (pronounced e-NO-nee) was named for a mountain nymph who lived on Mount Ida in Phrygia, a region in what is now southern Turkey. She was the wife of Paris; she foretold that her husband would desert her, abduct Helen, and bring about the ruin of Troy. She revenged herself on Paris by sending their son Corythus to guide the Greeks to Troy, and when Paris came back to her from Troy, wounded and dying, she refused to use her healing knowledge to save him because she could not forgive him for deserting her; when he died, she killed herself.
