Asteroid 16494, Oka, was discovered on September 22, 1990 by Eric W. Elst at the European Southern Observatory. It has a period of 5 years, 125 days.

It was named for the Oka River in Russia, a major tributary of the Volga, into which it flows at Nizhny Novgorod; the Moskva River, which flows through Moscow, is a tributary of the Oka.
