Asteroid 1629, Pecker, was discovered on February 28, 1952 by Louis Boyer at Algiers, Algeria. Pecker has a period of 3 years, 127 days, and is just under 7 miles in diameter. It was named for Jean-Claude Pecker (born 1923), the director of the Nice Observatory. From 1964 to 1967, Jean-Claude Pecker served as general secretary of the International Astronomical Union.
