Asteroid 4867, Polites, a Jupiter Trojan, was discovered on September 27, 1989 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. It has a period of 11 years, 264 days.
It was named for a Trojan warrior, a son of Priam who died during the sack of Troy, chased down and run through with a spear in the royal palace by Pyrrhus in front of his parents.
Astrologically, Polites seems to indicate what its name suggests: politesse, using politesse, politeness .
The glyph for Polites is mine.
