Asteroid 4281, Pounds, was discovered October 15, 1985 by Edward Bowell at the Anderson Mesa unit of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 3 years, 316 days and is 14.6 kilometers (about 9 miles) in diameter.

It was named after distinguished British physicist and pioneering X-ray astronomer Kenneth A. Pounds (born 1934)
