Asteroid 23060, Shepherd, was discovered December 7, 1999 by the Lincoln Laboratory Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) Team at Socorro, New Mexico. It has a period of 4 years, 71 days.

It was named for Plano, Texas high-school teacher Karen Shepherd, who mentored a finalist in the 2005 Intel Science Talent Search.
