Solf

Asteroid 9872, Solf, was discovered on February 27, 1992 by Freimut Börngen at Tautenburg, Thuringia, Germany. It has a period of 3 years, 236 days.

It was named after astronomer Josef K. M. Solf (born 1934), a professor of astronomy at Heidelberg and Jena, and a director of the Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg, the observatory where the asteroid was discovered.

Josef Solf

The meaning of asteroid Solf, though, seems to be what its name might suggest to an English speaker: self; selfishness, narcissism, self-interest, etc.
