Sy

Asteroid 1714, Sy, was discovered on July 25, 1951 by Louis Boyer at Algiers. It has a period of 4 years, 42 days and is 16.8 kilometers (slightly less than 10 1/2 miles) in diameter.

it was named for French astronomer Frederic Sy, who was active in the late 19th and 20th centuries and made the first asteroid discoveries in Algeria.

The meaning of asteroid Sy, though, seems to be what its name might suggest to an English speaker: "to sigh" (sad, regretful, exasperated).
