Tasso


Asteroid 12295, Tasso, was discovered August 2, 1991 by Eric W. Elst at the European Southern Observatory.It has a period of 3 years, 275 days and is about 2 3/5 miles in diameter.

It was named for Italian writer Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), who was very influential to later generations of poets and musicians and who is best known for his 1575 epic poem Gerusalemme liberata (Jerusalem Liberated). He suffered from what was probably bipolar disorder.
