Asteroid 4440, Tchantchès, was discovered on December 23, 1984 by Francois Dossin at the Observatory of Haute Provence in Saint Michel de l'Observatoire, Haute Provence, France. It has a period of 2 years, 242 days.

It was named after Tchantchès (a Walloon variant of François, or Francis), a character of the folklore of the Wallonia region of southern Belgium. Tchantches is obstinate and rebellious but good-hearted.

The meaning of asteroid Tchantches seems to be informed by this: stubborn, obstinate, hard to handle, determined.
