Asteroid 17, Thetis, discovered April 17, 1852 by Robert Luther at Dusseldorf, Germany. It has a period of 3 years, 324 days and is 90.04 kilometers (just under 56 miles) in diameter.

It was named for Thetis, wife of King Peleus of Thessaly and mother of Achilles.
