To Kymopoleia

Hail, Kymopoleia, the wave-ranging, goddess of the storm waves!

Daughter of Poseidon, sea-lord, Earth-Shaker,

Wedded were you to Briareos, hundred-handed lord of sea storms, brother of the guards of Tartarus,

And bore Oiolyka, dread goddess of the storm surge.

Feared are you, more destructive you are than the violent winds!

You wash away mighty buildings like sand castles,

You toss around ships great and small like toys and sink them like stones,

You effortlessly lay waste to great cities,

Deal ruin to the mighty works of humanity,

And yet it is also in your power to calm the waves and make the ocean quiet and serene!
