Asteroid 8380, Tooting, was discovered on September 29, 1992 by Henry E. Holt at Palomar Mountain Observatory. It has a period of 4 years, 206 days and is about 6 1/3 miles in diameter.

It was named for the Tooting district of southwest London; its name was suggested by Ted Bowell, who lived in Tooting as a child. Asteroid Tooting's provisional designation prior to naming was 1992 SW17, and the Tooting neighborhood is in the British postcode district SW17.

The meaning of asteroid Tooting, apart from being a name asteroid for the Tooting district, seems to be what its name might also suggest: tooting, things that toot.
