Asteroid 12711, Tukmit, an Apollo asteroid, was discovered on January 19, 1991 by Jean E. Mueller at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. It has a period of 1 year, 106 days.
It was named for the creator god Tukmit (Father Sky) in the creation story of the Luiseño Native American people of southern California. Made from nothingness, he brought into being, together with Tomaiyavit (Mother Earth), the First People. The First People were all the people, flora, fauna and inanimate objects of the earth, the basis of Luiseño existence.
Astrologically, Tukmit seems to signify death, that which sends forth temporarily (as if on loan) and then takes back, ascending, enclosing, a glass ceiling.
The glyph for Tukmit is mine.
