Uyuni

Asteroid 32987, Uyuni, was discovered on December 4, 1996 by Vincenzo Silvano Casulli at Osservatorio Colleverde di Guidonia in Guidonia Montecelio, Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy.. It has a period of 4 years, 77 days and is about 2 1/6 miles in diameter.

It was named for the Salar de Uyuni salt flat in Daniel Campos province in southeastern Bolivia. It contains one third of the earth's lithium reserves, but the Bolivian government is wary of allowing foreign companies to mine there, fearing that the country and its people would end up seeing little benefit.
