Ward

Asteroid 4908, Ward, was discovered on September 17, 1933 by Fernand Rigaux at the Royal Observatory at Uccle, Belgium. It has a period of 3 years, 87 days.

Ward was named after Steven Ward, a electronics technician in the Computation Facility at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who rendered assistance to the Minor Planet Center which mainly had to do with system programming. The name was suggested by Brian G. Marsden, who helped identify the asteroid.

Astrologically, Ward seems to have to do with protection, stewardship or guardianship.

Former New York police chief William Bratton (born October 6, 1947, in Boston) has Ward sextile Asbolus (not being listened to), trine Elatus (to gloss over) and quincunx Lilith (the marginalized). His success at lowering the crime rate in New York was compromised by accusations of police brutality against minorities.

Former US Attorney General Janet Reno has Ward conjunct Venus (values).

John Ashcroft has Ward quincunx Uranus (radicalism).

The oft-slandered Bill Clinton, a promoter and protector of the nation's ecological and historical endowment, has Ward in the seventh house of adversaries, sextile Uranus, trine Elatus, and quindecile Mars (energy) and Neptune (idealization, lies).

Ralph Nader has Ward in the third house of the media and public speaking, conjunct Asbolus, sextile Hidalgo (to protect, defend and promote) and square the Moon (the public).

Bernardine Dohrn, former Sixties radical turned law professor and advocate for children, has Ward in the second house, semisquare Vesta (dedication) and square Pluto (to reinvent oneself).

Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri, who has numerous terrorist threats and insurgencies to deal with, not to mention the country's environmental heritage, has Ward semisquare Uranus and square Sun (to shine, to lead) and Mercury.

Her predecessor, Abdurrahman Wahid was put in office over Megawati because some of Indonesia's influential religious leaders were reluctant to accept a female president, only to be impeached and removed from office after only a short time as president due to his erratic behavior. He has Ward semisquare the Sun, square Cruithne (heritage) and trine Damocles (crisis, drastic rise and fall).

Former Manson Family member Susan Atkins, who has spent much of her life in prison for murder and may very well die there despite rehabilitating herself, has Ward in the eighth house, sesquiquadrate the Moon (the public).

Child murderer David Westerfield, who is currently on California's death row, has Ward square the Sun, Mercury and Vesta, trine Dioretsa (misdeeds rebounding upon one's head) and quincunx Hylonome (outrage and grief over a dead child).

Andrea Yates, who was committed to a psychiatric prison for life drowned her five children in the bathtub while psychotic, has Ward square Mars (testosterone-poisoned), Phaethon (out of control) and Hylonome and tredecile Ceres (family).

The glyph for Ward is mine and is meant to suggest a police officer's or firefighter's badge.
