It was named for German scientist Alfred Wegener (1880-1930), who came up with the theory of continental drift; which explained such things as earthquake and volcano prevalence, the distribution of fossils and certain animal and plant species (such as lemurs, rendering the hypothesis of the lost continent of Lemuria obsolete), and the climates of prehistoric eras. Wegener couldn't explain how continental drift could work, but later studies verified his idea, which is now generally accepted science. A participant in several polar expeditions, he died on a trip to Greenland, on the ice cap, and his corpse ended up buried deep within the ice.
Astrologically, asteroid Wegener seems to indicate slow change or processes; social or political "fault lines" that cause friction; gradual progress; aimless or directionless; someone else in control; "as the whim takes you" or "as the wind blows"; knowing something without being able to explain it. .
