Asteroid 1972, Yi Xing, was discovered on November 9, 1964 at the Purple Mountain Observatory at Nanjing (Nanking), Jiangsu, China. Yi Xing has a period of 3 years, 279 days.
It was named for an ancient Chinese astronomer, Yi Xing (683-727), also known as I Hsing and Zhang Sui, who lived during the Tang Dynasty. Yi Xing constructed a bronze armillary sphere for measuring the altitudes of stars above the horizon, and he conducted a large-scale latitude-measurement project in many places across China and reformed the Chinese calendrical system.
Astrologically, asteroid Yi Xing seems to indicate the desire or need to set right or correct.

The glyph for Yi Xing is mine and is meant to suggest Yi Xing's armillary spheres.
