"Epitaph to Pope Alexander"

by

Bohuslav Hasištejnský z Lobkovic

He who sacrificed peace to hatred, having the heart of a warrior,

who didn't hesitate to enter quarrels, struggles and slaughters,

is lying here in his coffin, and people are rejoicing at that,

O Rome the greatest, your supreme pontiff Alexander.

You, prelates of Hell and Heaven, shut your doors

And don't let his soul enter your realms.

He would destroy the peace of Hell and be a problem to everyone there,

And utterly defeat the saints, if he's allowed into the sphere of stars.
