Iduna

Asteroid 176, Iduna, was discovered on October 14, 1877 by CHP Peters at Clinton, New York. It has a period of 5 years, 254 days and is about 75 1/5 miles in diameter.

It was named for the Ydun Club in Stockholm, which hosted an 1877 meeting of the German astronomical society Astronomische Gesellschaft, the world's second-oldest astronomical society after Britain's Royal Astronomical Society. Peters immigrated to the US from Germany. Iduna (or Ydun) was the Norse goddess who kept the golden apples that maintained the eternal youth of the gods of Asgard.

Astrologically, asteroid Iduna seems to signify impeccable, stainless (Damien Foor); high expectations, strict, a fresh start.
