Asteroid 248, Lameia, was discovered on June 5, 1885 in Vienna by Johann Palisa. Lameia has a period of 3 years, 324 days and is about 31 1/6 miles in diameter.
It was named for Lamia, a creature in Greek mythology with the face and breasts of a woman and the body of a snake, who was once a woman until she was deformed (and her children killed) by Hera.

Lamia, (1905), a painting by British artist John William Waterhouse (1849-1917)
Astrologically, Lameia seems to be about "devouring one's young," seduced and betrayed, remorse, self-punishment, punitiveness..
