Mera

Asteroid 3553, Mera, an Amor object, was discovered on May 14, 1985 by Carolyn Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Mountain, California. It has a period of 2 years, 40 days.

It was named for Mera, a follower of Artemis who was killed by the goddess for breaking her vow of chastity (with Zeus); before dying, she gave birth to Locri, ancestor of the people known as the Locrians.

Its astrological meaning seems to be: honor killings, twisted attempts at maintaining purity, embracing sexuality at whatever cost, "better if you hadn't done it."
