Urmuz

Asteroid 44194, Urmuz, was discovered June 19, 1998 by the OCA-DLR Asteroid Survey (ODAS) at CERGA Obserrvatory's Calern Observing Site near Caussols, Alpes-Maritimes, France. The project, since ended, gets the discovery credit. It has a period of 4 years, 17 days.

It was named for the Romanian writer Demetru Demetrescu-Buzau (1883–1923), whose pen name was Urmuz. He was known for his odd style and his work anticipated the European 20th century dadaist, surrealist and absurdist literary movements. His writings were imitated, with the term “urmuzian” used to describe weird situations. He died by shooting himself in a public place in Bucharest.

Urmuz (Demetru Demetrescu-Buzau)

The influence of asteroid Urmuz seems to be what its name suggests: weird situations; possibly, public suicides.
