Away from the cadence of the waves

by

Rosalía Castro

Away from the cadence of the waves

and the moaning wind,

from the uncertain reflection that lights

wood and cloud;

from the call of some passing bird,

from the unknown rural smells

that the west wind steals

from valley or from hilltop,

there are worlds where peace is found

by souls that are sinking

beneath the world's weight.
